Trump first flew the Qatari jet as Air Force One on July 1, 2026, after a security retrofit paid for by taxpayers.
The New York Daily News put the retrofit at about $400 million. AvWeb reported an estimate of $1 billion when the jet was accepted in May 2025. ABC News reported that the Air Force estimated less than $400 million and that it’s unclear how much has been spent.
